County and Board of Education Redistricting

0 Comment(s) | Posted

According to Federal Courts and North Carolina General Statutes, the population of election districts must be reviewed following each federal census and lines must then be adjusted if the district populations are out of balance. Franklin County falls under the federal Voting Rights Act and additional restrictions under Section V apply. The redistricting process is now underway for the Franklin County Board of Education districts and the Franklin Board of County Commissioners districts.

A public hearing will be held on Monday,  November 7,  2011,  during the meeting beginning at 7pm in the County Commissioners Meeting Room, Franklin County Administration Building, 113 Market Street Louisburg, NC to receive public comment on three redistricting plans being considered by the Board of Commissioners for the 2012 Elections and thereafter. Additional public comments may be submitted to the Office of the County Clerk at or mailed to Kristen G. King, Clerk to the Board of Commissioners, 113 Market Street, Louisburg, NC 27549.

Several plans were developed for evaluation and consideration. Maps for each plan are available on this page.
