IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT DISABLED VETERANS PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTIONS:
All AV-9 applications (Applications for Property Tax Relief) must be filed no later than June 1st of each year. After this date, a new form must be picked up from the tax office in February or March and filed by June 1, in order to get the exemption for the year of filing. If are applying for the exemption before June 1, please complete the AV-9 so that it will be of record. Once the NCDVA-9 [State of North Carolina Certification for Disabled Veterans Property Tax Exclusion (G.S. 105-277.1C)] has been returned to you via mail from the Winston Salem Regional Office, take it also to the local tax office so that they can update your records. You should only have to apply for this tax exemption once. It is for your primary dwelling unit. If you have any questions, please contact our office regarding this State benefit.
