December 29, 2011

Our office will soon be mailing out Notice of Real Estate Assessed Value notifications resulting from our reappraisal of all real estate within Franklin County effective January 1, 2012.  Information contained within these notifications will explain in detail what the Reappraisal is and why the Reappraisal was done in Franklin County. There will also be information regarding the process for property owners to file appeals on properties for which they believe the stated value is substantially higher or lower than the actual market value or is inequitable when compared to like and similar properties.  We have developed an Electronic Appeal so that taxpayers will not have to visit our office in order to appeal; taxpayers can simply complete the appeal form online and submit it to our office.  We will also provide appeal forms in the envelope along with the notifications which taxpayers may complete and mail in.  Taxpayers may also call to schedule appointments to visit our office and discuss their properties with staff assigned by the reappraisal company.  We hope that our values are accurate and fair; however, if any taxpayer feels differently, our goal is to minimize the inconvenience and make the appeal process as easy as possible, regardless of the option chosen to appeal.  We will post additional information soon regarding when taxpayers can expect the notifications in the mail.

Regards,

Jimmy Tanner, Tax Administrator

Any civic group, association or group in general that would like the Tax Administrator to attend a meeting and provide a presentation on the Franklin County Revaluation that is effective for January 1, 2012, please email your request to jtanner@franklincountync.us and provide a preferred meeting time and location.  The Administrator will be available at any time unless a prior engagement has already been scheduled.  It is our intent to provide information and answer any questions that may help our taxpayers and citizens understand the process of revaluation, why we are required to do it, and what to expect. Again, please contact our office if you would like to discuss having a presentation at your next meeting.
