Solid Waste Task Force

Franklin County Solid Waste Task Force members are appointed by the Franklin County Board of Commissioner. Most positions are volunteers.

John Faulkner - Director

  • Interest: Likes to work around the family farm and garden

Ed Shearin - Member

  • Member of the SWTF for the past 5 years
  • Keep America Beautiful Director
  • Former WHLQ-WYRN Announcer
  • Native of Franklin County
  • Married 26 years with one son
  • President of the Louisburg Lions Club
  • Member of the Board of Directors of "A Child's Garden" charter school in Louisburg
  • Interests: music, reading, sports, and interaction with citizens of this county

Betty Edwards - Member

  • Task Force Membership 1997 to present
  • Retired January 31, 2003 from Franklin County Dept. of Social Services
  • Married 1960 to Ray Edwards (45 years in July)
  • 3 children and 2 grandchildren
  • Active member Corinth Baptist Church serving on financial committee and in the choir.
  • My interest: Promoting litter prevention and encouraging citizens to take pride in their community and keep their community litter free.
  • My hobbies are traveling and hiking in our state parks, boating, fishing and acting like a kid again playing with my grandchildren.

  • Retired Civil Engineer with over 40 years experience in the field
  • Married to Claudette for more than 37 years
  • Father to two daughters and grandfather to two girls
  • Personal philosophy, "It is man's responsibility to care for and respect his fellow man and nature".
  • Interest: Includes, fishing, swimming, finances, woodworking and gardening

  • Background includes 18 years as an Early Childhood Teacher
  • Fostered learning experiences about the environment and what we, as individuals, could do to help nature
  • Married to Pierre Giani for over 37 years
  • Mother to two daughters and grandmother to two girls, Sarah and Heather
  • Personal philosophy, "If each person contributes in just a small way everyday, such as recycling, having organic gardens and avoids littering, together the efforts would have a positive impact on the environmental health of the world in which we live".
