Solid Waste Task Force
Franklin County Solid Waste Task Force members are appointed by the Franklin County Board of Commissioner. Most positions are volunteers.
JOHN FAULKNER – SOLID WASTE DIRECTOR
- County employee for 24 years
- Franklin County native
- 1985 graduate of NC State University
- Married years – 2 children
- Interest – enjoys working around the family farm and garden
ED SHEARIN – KAB DIRECTOR
- Member of the SWTF for 13 years
- Former WHLQ – WYRN radio announcer
- Native of Franklin County
- Past President of the Louisburg Lions Club
- Former member of the Board of Directors of Cross Creek Charter School
- Interests – music, reading, sports, spending time with his teenage son
BETTY EDWARDS – SWTF MEMBER
- Appointed to SWTF in 1997
- Retired from Franklin Co. Dept. of Social Services in 2003
- Happily married since 1960. She has 3 children and 2 grandchildren
- Betty is committed to recycling, however her real passion is prevention of roadside litter. She encourages citizens to take pride in their community and keep it litter free.
- She enjoys being outdoors in nature, hiking, fishing, spending time with family, and playing with her grandchildren.
MONTY RIGGS – SWTF MEMBER
- Retired as Director of Secondary Instruction, Franklin Co. Schools
- Married with 2 children
- Interests include recycling and litter prevention
WYATT McGHEE – CHAIRMAN, SWTF
- Retired Lt. Colonel, United States Air Force
- Past winner of national “Iron Eyes Cody” award for recycling and litter prevention
- Enjoys recycling unusual items
- Has adopted a highway for many years
- Married with 2 children
PIERRE GIANI – SWTF MEMBER
- Task Force member since 2004
- Retired Civil Engineer with over 40 years experience
- Married for 44 years
- Father to 2 daughters and grandfather to 3 girls
- Personal philosophy: “it is man’s responsibility to care for and respect his fellow man and nature:
- Interests include: fishing, swimming, finances, woodworking and gardening
- Chairman of Franklinton Planning Board
CLAUDETTE GIANI – SWTF MEMBER
- Former Early Childhood Teacher for 18 years
- Fostered learning experiences about the environment and what we, as individuals, could do to help nature.
- Married to Pierre for over 44 years
- Mother to 2 daughters and grandmother to 3 girls, Sarah, Heather, and Joy.
- Personal philosophy: “if each person contributes in just a small way everyday, such as recycling, having organic gardens, and avoid littering, together the efforts would have a positive impact on the environmental health of the world in which we live”.
- Member of “1 Franklinton”.
T.R. O’Neill – SWTF MEMBER

- Employed at Novozymes
- Interested in recycling and litter prevention

- Interested in promoting recycling and litter prevention to the public
