Solid Waste Department Educational Program
Franklin County is committed to improving the process of educating people about our solid waste disposal programs. We are also investigating adding a "Keep America Beautiful Coordinator" to our staff.
Information on our Solid Waste Programs will be distributed to all residents, towns, businesses, contractors, groups, and much more.
John Faulkner and Ed Shearin provide educational and instructional workshops or presentations to any civic, church, or community based groups. We also have public service announcements on the local radio station on a continuing basis. To schedule a speaker at your next event, please call (919) 496-5002.
Community Education
The Solid Waste Manager uses computer generated information for waste management and recycling presentations.
Promotional materials are also ordered through a variety of companies (includes pens, pencils, bookmarks, activity books, calendars, tote bags, and much more).
Franklin County has a Solid Waste Programs Brochure that gives information on solid waste disposal and collection, recycling, and litter. Presentations are made to civic, churches, schools and other groups of every kind.
School Education
Franklin County currently has a recycling representative in each of the twelve schools. This person is responsible for waste management and recycling education for their particular school.
The Solid Waste Manager does presentations for children of all ages and provides promotional items to each of the schools. These items includes pencils, bookmarks, stickers and activity books.
The Cooperative Extension Service provides organized programs for a variety of school age children. Summer programs are also presented by calling (919) 496-3344 for a list of programs and contacts.

This website is great for kids and teachers looking to learn about waste reduction and litter prevention. This site has games and activities for the kids and teacher talks and programs for the teachers.

Franklin County provides information to all industries for waste management and recycling issues.
