Conditional Use Permit
Purpose:
Conditional Uses add flexibility to the zoning ordinance by permitting potential undesirable uses of property in specified districts when certain conditions are met. The Board of Adjustment may choose to place additional conditions on the permit to minimize any adverse effects it might have on surrounding properties.
The included outline list the procedure for applying for a Conditional Use Permit. Applicant is advised to discuss with Planning Staff before applying for Conditional Use Permit.
Special Use Permit
Purpose:
Special Uses add flexibility to the zoning ordinance by permitting potential undesirable uses of property in specified districts when certain conditions are met. The Planning Board will review the Special Use Permit Application in order to make a recommendation to the Board of Commissioners. The Planning Board may also play additional conditions on their recommendation for the Board of Commissioners to consider. The Board of Commissioners will review the Special Use Permit to make a final decision.

The included outline is the procedure for applying for a Special Use Permit. Applicant is advised to discuss with Planning Staff before applying for Special Use Permit.

Zoning Permit
Purpose:
This permit, issued by the Franklin County Planning Staff, allows the applicant to use or occupy a tract of land or a building; or to erect, install or alter a structure, building or sign situated in the jurisdiction of the County that fully meets the requirements of the Franklin County Unified Development Ordinance (UDO).

Variance Permit Request
Purpose:
A Variance is a permit that enables the property owner to make use of their property in a way that conflicts with the literal interpretation of the ordinance. More specifically, a Variance grants relief from the Unified Development Ordinance. A typical Variance request involves setback requirements. Use Variances are not permitted pursuant to state law.

The following outline is the procedure for applying for a Variance. The Applicant is advised to discuss the Variance Request with Planning Staff before applying.
